New York state's two US senators say they have asked the US Department of Agriculture to help the state's grape growers.

Senators Chuck Schumer and Kirsten Gillibrand persuaded the USDA to buy concord grape juice for programs like school lunches.

2013 was a good year for the concord grape farmers. They had a surplus of the fruit, and the industry hopes to keep prices stable this year despite the high supply.

There are about 280 growers who produce the popular concord in western and central New York.
