State officials announced Monday that State Senator Tom Libous is stepping down as head of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee.

The 60-year-old Senator said he was giving up the job due to a difficulty in scheduling time for the job due to his long term chemotherapy treatments. Senator Libous was diagnosed with cancer in 2009.

The senator said he will continue to put his constituents first, second only to his health. Libous will be replaced by Senator Cathy Young, who will be the first woman to hold the position of head of the Senate Republican Campaign Committee.
