State Senator Tom Libous has collected over seven thousand signatures on his web site to keep the Greater Binghamton Health Center and Broome Developmental Center from state closure. Libous recently introduced a bill to the legislature that would put a hold on the closures until a better plan could be found.

Last week the senator, along with his colleagues in the senate and assembly, met with the governor’s staff and commissioners of the Office of Mental Health and Office for People with Developmental Disabilities, to present the damaging impact the closures will have on the Southern Tier.

Libous said he will continue to meet with officials in the coming weeks to work out a solution that keeps one thousand jobs and important services in the community.
