The State Office of People with Developmental Disabilities made it official Friday that the Broome Developmental Center in Binghamton will close by March 31, 2016.

The center is one of four slated to close including two in the New York City area and one in the Albany area. The OPWDD says that current employees in the facilities slated for closure will be transferred to other state facilities or retrained for new positions.

In the meantime, State Senator Tom Libous is fighting to keep the Binghamton facility open and asks that those who feel the same sign his on-line petition at tomlibous.com.
