Local Law Enforcement Acts Quickly to Man in Distress on Newburgh-Beacon Bridge
Local law enforcement acted quickly after a call came in about a man in distress on the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge.
According to a press release, the Beacon Police Department "received a call of a man standing on the fence of the pedestrian walkway of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge" closer to the Newburgh side.
When officers arrived on the scene they found the man "standing on the top wrung" of the fence, overlooking the river and speaking to a woman passing by "stating he wanted to kill himself."

In the press release, Beacon PD explains that their officers acted quickly to get the man to safety.
Beacon Police Department writes:
Officers acted quickly to take hold of the male and bring him down off of the fence to safety.
Officers from the Town of Newburgh Police Department were also on the scene as the man was taken down from the fence to safety and turned over to them for a mental health evaluation.
The statement goes on to explain "Though the bridge is not patrolled by the City of Beacon Police Department, when calls like this come in, we respond due to our proximity."
