There are probably more celebrities born and buried in New York State than any other state, thanks, probably to the early entertainment mecca of New York City. So we thought it would be interesting if once in a while we parse off a section of the Empire state and look at who those celebrities were, where they came from, and where they are buried.

In this gallery we take a quick look at seven celebrities who were born in the Adirondacks and the North Country of New York York State.

And what a list it is.

We see major entertainment stars, both in the field of Hollywood movies and television shows.  The ones on this list have all been nominated for the top awards, including Academy Awards (for both best acting and best supporting acting), and Emmy and Tony Award winners.  One of the stars was top billed in what I always thought was the greatest western movie ever made.  And one of the TV stars was hilarious in his supporting "brother" role in a hit sitcom for 11 years.

You will meet a vibrant Food Network star who was once name one of America's Top 100 most influential women.  And you will also meet a famous painter/sculptor, a World Series baseball legend, and a man who invented something we all had to learn in school (and, speaking for myself, could never figure it out!).

We know this is a short list, so we ask our readers to let us know if we missed someone from this region.  If you know of such a celebrity, please give it a shout out over on our Facebook page.  We really do want to her from you!

Seven Famous Celebrities Born in The Adirondacks/North Country of New York State

This gallery takes a look at seven famous celebrities who were born in the Adirondacks and the surrounding region of the North Country,

What an eclectic list this is!

Here you will find entertainment stars, sports legends, and other names that we are all familiar with. There are a couple of actors here who have been nominated for several Academy Awards, but, alas, have come home empty handed on Oscar night. You will meet a funny man whom we loved on his popular television sitcom, and who did come home with an armful of Emmy Awards and nominations over the 11 year run of his show.

We meet a food superstar, a famous [painter/sculptor, and we meet a guy who gave us a phrase all Baby Boomer learned in school. Yes, it was the dreaded... well, you will see it in the last panel of this gallery.

We recognize that this is only a short list so if you know of a famous celebrity form this region that should be on here, please give us a shout out over on our Facebook page!

17 Amazing, Beautiful, and Historic Upstate New York Cemeteries

In the mid to late 1800s, cemeteries were first built far outside a community, rather than the traditional intimate churchyard settings of previous cemeteries. Upstate New York has hundreds of these cemeteries and they are beautiful places.

As a writer, one of my travel guides is a book about the cemeteries of Upstate New York, and focuses on 100 notable graves that I have visited all over the region. Here is a list of a 17 of the most historic and beautiful this writer has seen. Most are in large cities, like Buffalo and Syracuse, but there are some in smaller places. And those lesser known ones are equally as beautiful and historic.

For each entry on this list we have provided a short note telling of an "amazing graves" found in each cemeteries. The stories are very interesting!
