More Snow? Five Unique Snow-Related Activities For The Family
I know, I know, we aren't too happy about it either. This winter has not been very kind to the Hudson Valley (well, more than just us). Between ice cold temps for what felt like years, to some pretty significant snowfalls over the past few months, we're all counting down until warmer and brighter days...
But, before we get there, looks like there's some more snow headed our way within the next few days, so to prepare, here's a list of five things kids (of all ages) might do to stay occupied during the next storm - and we're talking more than building a snowman or making snow angels!

Make Candy! Yes, Seriously!
Did you know that you can use that (clean) pile of snow sitting outside your kitchen to make a batch of candy? Emphasis on the clean part.
The video above is just one of many simple but cool ways to use stuff you probably have in the kitchen already to make a fun treat during the storm. Boiling honey or maple syrup in a pot and pouring it onto fresh packed snow until it freezes will give you a chewy toffee-like candy!
Snow Painting!
My daughter and I used to do this a ton when she was little, and we may need to break out the food coloring again during the next storm to keep from going nuts with cabin fever. There are actually snow writing kits available to buy in stores or online, or, you can go the cheaper route and simply add some food coloring or powder paint into a spray or squirt bottle and you're good to start decorating the backyard!
(you can also bring snow inside in a bucket or tupperware, and paint using food coloring and an eye dropper).
Giant Colored Globe/Marbles
Fill a water balloon, or even a regular balloon with water and add food coloring to it, place outside to freeze. Once frozen, cut the balloons off and you'll have giant colored spheres/marbles to decorate the outside of the house with.
Build A Classic Snow Wall
Did you have one of those rectangle snow-block formers from back in the day with the handle on top? I can so vividly remember the one we had growing up that was red. I digress...
Let the kids (or adults who are still holding onto their youth) build a snow brick wall easily by using a tupperware container. For added fun, you can add food coloring and let the color set and the brick form, and make a colorful brick wall in the snow. For even more fun, do a friendly competition of who can build the taller brick wall, and then who gets to knock them all down.
Snow Ice Cream
Last, but certainly not least, again using CLEAN SNOW, make a batch of snow ice cream. There's a bunch of different recipes out there, TikTok is full of variations too, but below find a pretty simple way to turn the next snowfall into a sweet ice cream treat in no time.
So, as we prepare for the next (few?) Hudson Valley snowfalls, consider using some of these ideas to use up the excess snow we have laying around, and as always, stay connected with our storm center.
