This is another in our series of exploring the various dining areas around Upstate New York.  This time we showcase ten fabulous restaurants found in the Southern Tier area known as the "Triple Cities."  This region comprises the cities of Binghamton, Johnson City, and Endicott, New York.

It is no secret that this area is known for its fine Italian restaurants, and this list has several of the best of them.  Italian immigrants created a wave of newcomers in the early 20th Century, when thousands came to Ellis Island from Italy.  There, with many of them desperate for work (and many times only knowing one phrase in English, "Which way, EJ?"), they migrated to the Johnson City area where they found ready employment in the burgeoning Endicott-Johnson Shoe Company complex.  Their old school, Old World traditions can still be found generations later in the many Italian restaurants in the area, including the several on our list.

We have also included a wonderful Japanese sushi restaurant, and one of the top traditional Polish restaurants, a great barbecue place, and two popular steakhouses.

Obviously, this is just a "sampler" list.  There are more than 100 great places to eat in the Triple Cities.  So, if your favorite dining destination in the area didn't make our gallery, we invite you to visit our Facebook page and give it a shout out.

We really do want to hear from you!

Upstate Legends! A Visit to Cooperstown's Hyde Hall, a "Mansion Unlike Any Other"

Hyde Hall, although technically located in Springfield, NY, is closely associated with Cooperstown. The mansion, built for George Clarke (1768-1835), scion of one of the earliest settlers and landowners of then-Western New York State (meaning west of the Hudson River), is without peer for its important contributions to history and architecture of the era. Today, tours of this stunning showplace are a popular attraction to those visiting Cooperstown. Hyde Hall is located at Glimmerglass State Park on the northern shore of Otsego Lake, the village of Cooperstown is on the lake shore nine miles south of the mansion. The house was built between 1817 and 1834, and was designed by Philip Hooker, the pre-eminent New York State architect at the time, and the man who designed the New York State Capitol.

Definitely put Hyde Hall on your Upstate New York bucket list!
