Huge Arrest In Deposit Seizes Over $1M In Drugs
A press conference was held Monday morning at 11 a.m. by the Broome County Sheriff's Office on what is being dubbed as one of the biggest drug seizures in Broome County history. According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, after about a 2 month investigation, on November 30, The Broome County Special Investigations Unit Task Force executed a search warrant around 2 p.m. Friday at 62 1/2 Wheeler Street in the village of Deposit.
Authorities seized: Approximately 1 kilo of heroin (more than two pounds), approximately 1 kilo of fentanyl (more than two pounds), approximately 2 kilos of meth (more than four pounds), almost $24,000 in cash, and drug packaging materials.
Police arrested 36-year-old Marlon Graham and 30-year-old Johnnah DeGraw. They were arraigned at the Broome County Sheriff’s Office on the following charges and sent to the Broome County Jail:
-Three counts, criminal possession of a controlled substance, first degree, class A-I felony
- Criminal possession of a controlled substance, second degree, class A-II felony
Three counts, criminal possession of a controlled substance, third degree, class B felony
- Three counts, criminally using drug paraphernalia, second degree, class A misdemeanor
- Endangering the welfare of a child, class A misdemeanor. DeGraw's 3 month old child was found during the search in the home.
According to Broome County Sheriff David Harder, the Fentanyl alone had a value of roughly $1,000,000. To put it in perspective, Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge states, “With the amount they seized is equivalent to a half a million lethal doses of Fentanyl, which would be enough to kill every man, woman and child in Broome County, two and a half times over.”
Due to the magnitude of this seizure, this case could end up in federal court which could levy heavier charges to the accused.
