Delaware County Sheriff Craig DuMond announced today that the Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s assistance in their on-going investigation of recent vandalism to the historic Hamden Covered Bridge.

Early Thursday morning, May 21, 2020, a local resident reported discovering new graffiti spray painted on the interior of the wooden covered bridge and area road signage. Deputies report that amongst the senseless graffiti, the names “Jake” and “Dylan” were spray painted inside the bridge with orange and black paint. Investigation has determined that the bridge was vandalized on at least two separate occasions in recent weeks.

Delaware County Department of Public Works employees have removed the paint from the road signage, and today, began the difficult task of attempting to remove the spray paint from the rough cut lumber of the bridge.

Deputies are asking anyone with information that may lead to the identification of the vandal(s) to please call Delaware County Sheriff's Deputy Tyler McAteer at (607) 832-5555, send him a message via email to tyler.mcateer@co.delaware.ny.us, or call the toll-free tip line, (888) 914-9111 to leave a message. All calls will be returned and will remain confidential
