SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) — Hancock International Airport in Syracuse is getting a $4.5 million federal grant for construction of a new taxiway and a place for planes to park overnight.

Syracuse Mayor Stephanie Miner said Wednesday the grant will help not only Hancock's regular operations, but that it will help the airport continue to serve as an emergency destination. The Syracuse airport is a common destination for diverted flights in the Northeast because of its location.

U.S. Rep. Dan Maffei (muh-FAY') says the grant was administered by the Federal Aviation Administration. He says the money will help keep flights on time.
