Gas Leak Causes Brief Oneonta Evacuations and Traffic Detours

The City of Oneonta Police reported a natural gas leak this morning due to a construction accident at 387 Main St. where the EZ Food Mart is.  A gas line ruptured, visibly spewing the gas into the surrounding air.  Some residences were evacuated in the area and police re-routed traffic for safety concerns.  NYSEG crews worked quickly to contain the leak.

Crews were able to get the leak fixed and a City of Oneonta nixle advisory reported around 11:00 a.m. that residents were able to return to their homes.

Be aware that at 11:17 a.m., officials reported that Main Street is closed between Walling Ave. and Draper St. until 2:00 p.m. today.
