Drowning Victim Found in Chenango River
According to New York State Police, Norwich Police received a report around 5 p.m. last evening that a person had gone underwater in the Chenango River and had not come back up. Teams from New York State Police, the village of Sherburne Police Department, Chenango County Bureau of Fire and Sherburrne Fire and North Norwich Fire searched for the individual in the Chenango River near State Route 80 and County Route 23 in the village of Sherburne.
Then, a little after 8:00 p.m., the New York State Police Underwater Recovery Team discovered the body of the drowned victim in the Chenango River. That person, whose identity has not been released at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
More details will be released following the results of an investigation.
