Driver Takes Eyes Off Road; Milk Truck Crashes in Walton
They always say, "it only takes a minute." We have all been there. You are driving along, nothing wrong. And then you take you eyes off the road for just a minute, for whatever reason, and all of a sudden your easy drive turns into a nightmare. That scenario played out this week in Walton when a truck driver diverted his eyes for a minute and found himself in a truck crash a minute later.
Here is how the Delaware County Sheriff Office reported the accident events:
Sheriff Craig S. DuMond announced that State Route 206, between the Village of Walton and Lower Third Brook Road, was closed to traffic for several hours Tuesday morning as a result of a tractor trailer accident.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., Tuesday morning, August 8, 2021, Sheriff’s Deputies, members of the Walton Volunteer Fire Department and Emergency Squad and New York State Department of Transportation workers responded to 911 report of a tractor trailer accident on State Highway 206, approximately one half mile west of Murphy Hill Road.
Investigation revealed that the driver, 59 year-old Rogelio Rodriguez, of Decatur, Indiana, was driving an empty milk tanker owned by Moo Juice Express, Inc., of Berne, Indiana, in a westerly direction when he momentarily took his eyes off the road causing the truck to strike the guide cables and a tree. Rodriquez was not injured in the collision.
Sheriff DuMond and Sheriff’s Deputies extend their sincere appreciation to the members of the Walton Volunteer Fire Department and New York State Department of Transportation for their invaluable assistance in maintaining traffic control and the road closure during the investigation and clean-up of the accident scene.
