There has been another report of a confirmed case of rabies in Delaware County.

This is the second confirmed case of a rabies-infected raccoon in the county so far this year, according to Heather Warner, Health Education Coordinator for Delaware County Public Health Services. There was also a confirmed case of a calf in Pittsfield, Ostego County this week.

A Bloomville dog owner reported that her dog got into a fight with a raccoon, resulting in the death of the raccoon. On April 25th it was conformed that the raccoon had tested positive for rabies. There was no human contact, and the dog was up-to-date with vaccinations, needing only a booster after the exposure.

Rabies has a 100% fatality rate if untreated to all mammals including humans
