ITHACA, N.Y. (AP) — Yogurt manufacturer Chobani and Cornell University are joining forces to establish a research and training program that will promote innovation in dairy and food science.

The partnership stems from a $1.5 million gift Chobani has given the Ivy League school. The money will be used to support research and workforce training in dairy quality at Cornell's College of Agriculture and Life Sciences to help maintain the state's competitive edge.

Yogurt, including the high-protein Greek yogurt Chobani produces, has given upstate New York an economic boost. New York companies now account for nearly three quarters of all Greek yogurt sales.
