Chenango County Teen Charged with Girlfriend’s Murder

The boyfriend of an Oxford girl, found dead at a home in Smithville May 3, is accused of murdering her.

Bob Joseph/WNBF News [file][/caption]18-year-old Cody Coleman appeared in Chenango County Court May 17 to face felony murder and misdemeanor weapon charges in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Amelia Wakefield.

Authorities accuse Coleman of shooting the Oxford High School Junior with a 16-gage Remington 870 shotgun at his home.  Wakefield was found in a bedroom at 6:50 p.m. May 3.

Coleman had been arrested on a warrant for a violation of probation on May 7th and was sent to the Chenango County Jail.

Sheriff's investigators have not discussed a possible motive.

Coleman entered a plea of not guilty and remains in the County Jail.
