When the State Assembly gets back in session this morning, the first order of business will be the resignation of New York Assemblyman Vito Lopez.

Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver received the news Saturday in a faxed letter from Lopez.

As a result of a lengthy investigation of Lopez by the joint commission on public ethics, it was found that since 2010, Lopez engaged in inappropriate behavior with female staff employees. The report also criticized speaker silver for confidentially handling complaints by accusers. He has admitted mistakes were made but no laws were broken.
