One of the most highly attended events in Chenango County in the summer, the annual Lobsterfest is set for July 21 from noon to 4 p.m. The event will take place at Canasawacta Country Club in Norwich.

Although the event is sponsored by the Chenango County Republican Committee and local Assemblymen Cliff Crouch, Gary Finch and Pete Lopez, it has remained a bi-partisan event for 38 years.

According to Tom Morrone, Republican Committee Chair, the event was first held as a fundraiser for former State Assemblyman “Rapp” Rapplea and brings out federal, state and local officials from the tri-county area.

"Congressmen Hanna, Senator Seward and Libous, and Assemblymen Crouch and Finch and local dignitaries, this year a lot of the supervisors are up for election they'll (all) be there this year," Morrone said. "The one that always attends our Lobsterfest (is) Bill McGee and I look forward to having him at our Lobsterfest, it's almost an honor to have him."

Morrone said Sheriff Cutting will also be in attendance.

"Sheriff Cutting is up for re-election and he'd like to visit with a lot of people at the Lobsterfest and let them know what he's thinking for the future of our Sheriff's department," he said.

Along with friendly conversations with representatives, there will have lots of great food prepared by the Canasawacta Country Club, and lobster to eat there or to take home.
Tickets are available by calling Tom Morrone at 334-3234.

"The country club does a nice presentation of the normal food that you'd get at a clam bake instead we use lobster, and I assure you the public will get their money's worth and it's good comradery," Morrone said.
