Emergency Services officials in Chenango County say, of the over 30 fire companies in the county, almost every one was called into service overnight June 17 to respond to damage caused by strong thunderstorms.

The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado with winds of up to 100 miles per hour touched down in Verona in Oneida County at around 10 p.m.

The storm left thousands of New York State Electric and Gas customers throughout the state without power for hours.

Broome County was largely spared with damage only reported in the northern part of the county in Whitney Point and Lisle.

There were no reports of injuries.
