The National Weather Service at Binghamton has issued a Freezing Rain Advisory for the afternoon and evening of Sunday, January 4th. The advisory is in effect from 3 pm until 10 pm, covering much of northeast Pennsylvania and all of central New York.

Light freezing rain and a thin coating of ice is expected. Patchy freezing rain and drizzle mixed with snow and sleet is forecast to spread into the area Sunday afternoon, with the freezing rain and drizzle becoming more widespread in the early evening before transitioning to all rain by late evening.

Temperature is expected to be in the lower 30s, rising to the mid to upper 30s by late evening. Very cold road surfaces will allow for any rain that falls initially to freeze even if temperatures are a little above freezing. Travel could be significantly impacted for a few hours late Sunday afternoon and evening.

Instructions: a freezing rain advisory means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.
