At a press conference in Albany last week, members of the press asked Governor Andrew Cuomo for his thoughts on many issues facing the state, including the controversial NY SAFE Act.

"A lot of people believe government has no right to control guns whatsoever; there should be no regulation by governments on guns, period," Cuomo said. "Statewide, as you know, about 70 percent of the people in the state support the types of provisions that we have in the bill, but there are still 30 percent of the people who don't support it. We knew that all along.

"One of the reasons society hasn't done anything about guns, one of the reasons we've lost so many innocent lives, one of the reasons I've spent 20 years working on this issue is because it's difficult," Cuomo added.

Cuomo says by looking at the discussion in Washington, you get a sense of the degree of difficulty in political differences on this issue.
