In October of last year, Rich and Todd Barnes of Norwich bought the Colonia Theatre to keep the historic building dedicated to bringing first run movies to downtown Norwich.

The brothers have been updating the theatre ever since with the recent installation of a new surround sound system in Theater 1 along with a state of the art digital projector capable of showing 3D movies. They will run their first movies with the new technology on Thursday at the 7 p.m. showing for "A Good Day to Die Hard."

The technical advances are just part of Rich and Todd's plan to make the Colonia Theatre the center of activity in downtown Norwich.

"Even after we get done with Theater 1 and Theater 2, and getting that digital, we're hoping to continue the motion forward with the community's support," Todd said. "We want to turn right around and go on to a third theatre upstairs and maybe a chance to have a dinner and a movie. That way we can help the community grow and bring some more life downtown."
