Board of Supervisors Chairman Lawrence Wilcox has issued a State of Emergency for Chenango County until further notice.

All roadways in Chenango County will be closing at 9 p.m. Monday and will be re-evaluated at 6 a.m. Tuesday, in anticipation of numerous trees and power lines down.

Hurricane Sandy will begin impacting the area this afternoon, with high winds into the 60 mph range expected overnight. Chenango County is anticipating numerous trees and power lines down, which could cause extensive delays to restoring power.

The City of Norwich Emergency Management Office is instructing people to finalize their plans and remain indoors through the overnight.
