The annual UHS Delaware Valley Hospital fundraiser, Pennies from Heaven, in its 22nd year, was held at the Townsend Elementary School, in Walton during the month of February. Students brought pennies they had been saving all year, in envelopes, baggies and boxes and even large plastic milk jugs and containers! This community project is always a lot of fun and a friendly competition between classrooms as they compete for the lunch party that goes to the classroom that collects the most pounds of pennies. This year, Mrs. Tina Ammon’s second grade class won; bringing in 131 lbs of pennies!

Mrs. Gates’ PM UPK class, Miss. Cole’s, Mrs. VanBuren’s, Mrs. Walley’s, Mrs. Day’s, Mrs. Wood’s, and Miss Ogden’s classes will also receive ice cream treats for bringing in the most pennies at their respective grade level.

Altogether, the school collected 1019 pounds of pennies which added up to $1,862.34. The staff of Wayne Bank graciously counts the pennies and the Walton Country Store donates the lunch for the winning class.

Over the 22 years the students have collected 22,260 pounds of pennies for a total of
$ 37,742.34 in donations! All donations are used to upgrade either the facilities or equipment.
