Members of New York’s congressional delegation want the Department of Veterans Affairs to consider reversing its sudden decision to cancel the "Golden Age Games" in Buffalo.

The six-day event for veterans 55 years old and older has been in the works for years and was expected to draw 1,000 veterans and even more spectators.

The games had been scheduled to start May 30, but earlier this week the VA postponed the Buffalo games indefinitely, while letting events in Colorado, North Carolina and Florida move forward.

The VA says the decision was made after evaluating the event and its alignment with department priorities.

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer is among those condemning the decision. Schumer late last week wrote to the VA urging agency officials to consider reversing the decision.
