Families Lose Everything In Unadilla Fire Before Christmas: How to Help
One of the worst things that can happen to a family happened on Monday night for two families in the Village of Unadilla, NY with their home going up in flames. A fire involving an apartment building and barn took place with area fire crews dispatched to the scene just after 10:30 pm that night.
According to the Wells Bridge Fire Department which received mutual aid from the Unadilla Fire Department crew at the blaze, it was a 2 1/2 hour battle to put out the fire, although crews remained to put out hot spots after that.
It's not known how many people resided in the apartment building but all lost not only their home but all of their belongings. The American Red Cross is assisting residents with temporary shelter and other necessities.
Since this was such a devastating fire, just before the holidays with at least two families living in that apartment, The Unadilla Fire Department made an announcement on their Facebook page to anyone who would like to help those who lost everything they had in the fire. The firehouse which is located at 77 Clifton St. in Unadilla is a drop-off location for donated clothes, toys, and other items.
