Two Charged in Criminal Mischief at Fleischmanns Synagogue
Two Delaware County men are charged with criminal mischief after a window was broken at a synagogue in the Village of Fleischmanns.
Delaware County Sheriff’s officials say 21-year-old Joseph Hayes of Middletown and 26-year-old Corey Bartley of Fleischmanns were May 25 and accused of throwing rocks at the building.
Deputies say at around 9:43 p.m. Friday, May 20, two men were walking down Main Street in the Village when one opened the gate and entered the synagogue property.
Investigators say they determined Hayes threw a large rock at the building, breaking a window while Bartley also threw a rock but didn’t cause any damage.
Authorities say they do not believe the building was targeted because it’s a synagogue.
Haynes is charged with felony criminal mischief and misdemeanor criminal trespass.
Bartley is charged with misdemeanor criminal mischief.
The pair has been ordered to appear in Middletown Town Court next month
New York State Police assisted in the investigation.
