Tague Wants Bid Requirements Changed for I-88 Project
State Assemblyman Chris Tague is calling for Governor Andrew Cuomo to lift a requirement that contractors bidding on road construction projects comply with a project labor agreement, which would require that even non-unionized construction companies follow union rules and potentially hire union labor. The Daily Gazette reports Tague made the request as bidding is to begin on a multi-year repair project on Interstate-88 in Schoharie and Otsego counties. The project will cover 31 miles of road construction. Tague says with the state financially struggling it makes no sense to have such a costly and legally-burdensome requirement.
