Susquehanna SPCA Director Now Championing Animal Welfare As NYSAPF Board President

The hard work of Stacie Haynes, Executive Director of the Susquehanna SPCA for Otsego County since 2015, advocating for the safety of animals, has earned her a prestigious position as Board President for The New York State Animal Protection Federation (NYSAPF) according to a release. She started her role on January 1.

The purpose of the NYSAPF is to "safeguard the well-being of all animals through
legislative and policy initiatives in New York State". This organization also speaks on behalf of animal-related organizations (animal shelters, humane societies, etc.) while acting as a resource of information.

Haynes came to her Board President position in the NYSAPF after becoming a member of the board in 2019 and becoming Treasurer and has ambitious goals this year for the organization, saying "This year’s agenda involves a number of key priorities impacting companion animals, including shelter and rescue standards, stopping the puppy mill pipeline, and strengthening animal cruelty laws"

Haynes has been a champion to stamp out animal cruelty through collaborative efforts with the Otsego County Sheriff's Office, the district attorney's office, and area veterinarians, assisting in animal neglect and abuse cases in the county. Haynes has shared with me that she hopes to greatly reduce these cases through education and encouraging area residents to report suspected cases of animal cruelty at www.sqspca.org/report-animal-cruelty.

Haynes' passion for the welfare of animals is also evident with a title she earned in 2020 as one of "America's Top Ten Animal Defenders" by the Animal Legal Defense Fund. I have no doubt that as NYSAPF's Board President, she will be even more impactful as a protector of animals in the county.
