On Thursday afternoon, April 17, 2020, Delaware County Sheriff Deputies arrested and charged a Stamford man with a number of crimes following a month-long investigation into the theft of a vehicle from the Village of Stamford.

According to a sheriff's department press release, on March 12, 2020, deputies responded to the Village of Stamford for a complaint of a stolen vehicle. It was reported that a 1985 Mercedes-Benz parked 10 South Street was unlawfully taken from the property between October, 2019, and March 12, 2020.

Investigation by Deputies revealed that in early March, 47 year-old Christian E. Daparma, of Stamford, unlawfully reported that he was the owner of the vehicle and sold the stolen Mercedes as scrap metal.

On Thursday afternoon, April 17, Deputies located Daparma at his residence and Daparma fled on foot upon being advised by Deputies that he was under arrest for the theft of the vehicle. Deputies immediately gave chase and apprehended Daparma who was subsequently charged with obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest in addition to grand larceny in the fourth degree and falsifying business records in the second degree.

In accordance with NYS Bail Reform Legislation, Daparma was released after being issued appearance tickets directing him to appear in the Town of Stamford Court on a later date to answer the charges of grand larceny in the fourth degree, obstructing governmental administration in the second degree and resisting arrest.
