State Senator James L. Seward today met with SUNY Chancellor Dr. Kristina Johnson at a meeting of the Senate Higher Education Committee.

“Higher education issues are vitally important across New York State. In my senate district, the high concentration of SUNY schools and community colleges is a positive feature – they are economic engines and prepare our young people for a productive future.

“Notably, I was pleased to hear the chancellor’s support for a revised state funding structure for community colleges that will increase predictability for local campuses. The chancellor also indicated the need to focus on capital improvements across the SUNY system. I have long backed such upgrades to ensure our schools are able to keep pace with changing times and attract the best and brightest students.

“As the state budget process moves forward, I will be working to ensure the SUNY system and our local campuses receive needed state support. I am also focused on expanding the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and helping more families afford the cost of a college education.”
