State Senator James L. Seward (R/C/I-Oneonta) today announced that $25,000 was awarded to the Schenevus Central School District as part of the ninth round of Regional Economic Development Council awards.

“I have worked closely with officials at the Schenevus Central School District as they take steps to stabilize the district’s finances and develop a sound plan moving forward,” said Senator Seward. “The $25,000 REDC grant will help cover costs for a merger feasibility study with Worcester and allow Schenevus school officials to explore all possible options as they plan for the best future for students and taxpayers.”

Earlier this year, Senator Seward sponsored legislation (S.4957/A.7499) that was signed into law authorizing advanced state aid payments to assist the school district.

“Superintendent Theresa Carlin and the current board of education at Schenevus are intent on instituting a comprehensive approach to address the district’s financial difficulties and I am pleased to partner with them to meet their needs,” added Seward.
