The Violence Intervention Program of Opportunities for Otsego will hold its Rape Crisis Counselor Certification course beginning September 10, 2019. The 30-hour course teaches community members about the dynamics of sexual assault and domestic violence and how to appropriately support and respond to victims. Upon completion, volunteers may support staff and clients by answering the 24-hour hotline, providing support at the emergency shelter and program office, and assisting with community outreach events.

Workshops are scheduled every Tuesday and Wednesday from 5:30 -8:30PM from September 10 through October 9. Trainees must attend all classes and complete an additional 10 hours of volunteer time to receive their New York State Department of Health Rape Crisis Counselor Certification and Office for Victim Services Sexual Assault Advocate/Counselor Certification.
