Otsego County Sheriff's Office Is Doing 'No-Shave November'

Here's a bit of history about No-Shave November...

According to no-shave.org, this method of raising funds dates back to 2009 when a family from Chicago, the Hill family, wanted to come up with a new way of fundraising for charity. In memory of Mathew Hill who passed away from colon cancer in November of 2007, his eight children came up with the idea of people not shaving facial hair or growing out their hair during the month of November, while and getting sponsors for their effort, with the money benefiting cancer foundations. After the success of their campaign, No-Shave November took off as a national fundraising effort to champion those fighting cancer and bring about awareness.

Another aspect of the No-Shave November is the message that people should embrace their hair for the sake of the many cancer patients who end up losing their hair as they undergo cancer treatments to fight off the disease. The ultimate goal of course is to find a cure for cancer and this is another great way of supporting that endeavor.

The Sheriff's Office hopes to raise $1500 for No-Shave November and you can support their efforts by making a donation online here. The best part is, any money raised by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office for this will be matched by their union, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society.
