Otsego County Baseball Pioneer to be Honored June 15
He made his mark as a giant among men, both in size and stature. Now he’s going to be honored by one of the newest historic roadside markers in New York State.
William A. Hulbert was born in Burlington Flats, NY in 1832. His family moved to Chicago soon after, where he grew up and went on to wealth and prominence and became owner of the Chicago White Stockings, forerunners of today’s Chicago Cubs. His primary accomplishment however was to become a founder of baseball’s National League and its president. For that, he was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1995.
His new roadside marker will be unveiled at a ceremony to be held Saturday, June 15, 2019 beginning at 9:30 am on the green in his birthplace of Burlington Flats. Several dignitaries will be speaking and the public is invited to attend.
The marker was made possible by a generous grant from the William G. Pomeroy Foundation® of Syracuse, NY, applied for by the Route 20 Association of New York State.
