Because the month of March is "Women's History Month", every year, the City of Oneonta’s Commission on Community Relations and Human Rights recognizes nominated, women trailblazers in our Oneonta community with the annual Woman Trailblazer Award. The commission defines a woman trailblazer as "one who has opened the pathways for others to follow; a pioneer, a forerunner, a trail breaker, a mover and shaker". Can you think of a woman you know in our community who can be described in that way? Chances are fairly good that we all can think of at least one woman who fits that bill.

Once you have a trailblazer award-deserving woman in mind, take a few minutes to fill out a nomination application for the 2022 Woman Trailblazer Award. The women chosen will be honored by the City of Oneonta and presented with the award on March 31, 2022, at a special event at Foothills Performing Arts Center in Oneonta from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The public is invited to attend this free event but encouraged to get tickets through Eventbrite.

Last year's winners were handed out at city hall by former mayor Gary Herzig to former Oneonta mayor Kim Muller, Susquehanna SPCA Executive Director Stacie Haynes, Judge Lucy Bernier, and Cathy Lynch, a long-time teacher at Oneonta High School and OHS S.A.D.D Advisor. All those women were VERY deserving of their awards for their wonderful contributions to our Greater Oneonta community.
