In recognition of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, the Violence Intervention Program (VIP) of Opportunities for Otsego is organizing several exhibits during the month of October:

Empty Place at the Table is a memorial honoring victims who have lost their lives to domestic violence. The exhibit features a dining table set with personal effects donated by the families of victims, who will always hold their loved one in their hearts.

· October 15th-18th, Hartwick College Dewar Union , 8AM – 5PM

The Clothesline Project: A compelling visual display of t-shirts decorated by those impacted by domestic violence that include messages of hope, perseverance, recovery, and resiliency.

· October 22nd-24th, Southside Mall, Oneonta, 1PM – 5PM

· November 4th-8th, SUNY Oneonta Hunt Union, 1PM- 5PM

The Silent Witness Project is a national initiative to bring awareness to relationship violence. The exhibit is comprised of life sized silhouettes of survivors of interpersonal violence accompanied by their stories of strength and survival.

The Violence Intervention Program is also commemorating Wear Purple Day on Thursday, October 24th. This national events aims to raise awareness and shine the light on domestic violence. VIP encourages the community to gather friends, family, co-workers and peers to commemorate the day by donning purple - the color of domestic violence awareness – or by illuminating businesses, homes, and other community buildings in purple light. A limited supply of purple lights is available for loan by contacting the Violence Intervention Program at 607.433.8031.
