New York State Police Troopers issued more than 9,200 tickets statewide during the Independence day STOP-DWI enforcement campaign that ran between July 3 and 5. Troopers utilized sobriety checkpoints and additional patrols resulting in 180 drunk driving arrests. Close to half of the tickets issued were for speeding. Last year over 16,000 tickets were issued and there were 255 drunk driving arrests. Troopers also responded to more than 350 accidents with one of them being fatal.
