New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and eleven other state attorneys general want to crack down on pollution they say contributes to climate change.

The group asked the US Environmental Protection Agency to set strict emission limits for existing fossil fuel power plants, but allow states to decide how those plants will meet those limits.

The coalition of attorneys general has laid out the legal requirements for the Environmental Protection Agency to take action under the Clean Air Act and has prepared a rebuttal for those who oppose the action.

Attorney General Schneiderman said: “Climate change represents the greatest environmental threat of our time, posing the risk of catastrophic harm to the health and safety of all New Yorkers and to our economy.”
