Holiday nostalgia is near and dear to our heart and so I was very excited to hear that  The Greater Oneonta Historical Society (GOHS) will be bringing back the old Bresee's  department store Christmas figurines (see photos below) of long ago and displaying them in the history center's windows.

The Christmas figures to be displayed will be moving "holiday workers" in the history center's front windows, along with four elves and reindeer that were holiday fixtures at Bresee's Oneonta Department Store for decades. All will be on display at 183 Main St. in Oneonta until Monday December 7.

These figures that date back to the 1940s are on loan from St. James Manor. If you want to see the animatronic figures moving, you'll have to come to the history center while it's open. Inside the Oneonta History Center, you can see a life size Santa sitting in his chair with a mailbox beside him, plus two model train layouts. Two special holiday displays are of metal toy vehicles from the 1930s and of White House holiday ornaments.

Also at the The History Center, you can shop for unique gifts, including Rockefeller/Oneonta tree ornaments and Christmas and New Year's greeting cards reproduced from vintage postcards, and in December, children may choose from one of four free holiday craft kits available.

The History Center has expanded hours for December. Visit www.OneontaHistory.org or call (607) 432-0960 for more information.
