Believe it or not, August 16th is "National Bratwurst Day" in America.  Yes, who knew?

In this gallery we will follow the celebration with the "best of the wurst" German restaurants we could find in Upstate New York.  Some are fairly new, others are old and historic.  At all of these places you can get your schnitzel on with absolutely no problem!

Among the big ones are the Hoffbrauhaus in Buffalo.  It is vast and so much fun.  A large indoor beer hall, and a comfortable biergarten outside.  It can hold hundreds.  On the other end of the scale is the little Bavaria Restaurant in the village of Sidney (Delaware County).  It seats only a couple dozen patrons at one time.  The German specialty desserts here are, in a word, unforgettable.

You will find these German restaurants all over the Upstate New York map, and we include dining spots from the Hudson Valley through the Catskills and Adirondacks and out through the Finger Lakes to Buffalo.  Each entry has a link to the restaurant for hours and directions.

All of these places have a myriad of German food items on their menus, most have beer gardens and beer served in heavy glass steins, some have German desserts, some have international soccer playing on the sports screens, and (if you are lucky) some will have live German "ooom-pah" music.  And all of them will have a boisterous Oktoberfest celebration this and every year.  And that is a guarantee.

So strap on your lederhosen and go have a schnitzel on me!

And remember, as usual, if we missed your favorite German restaurant, beer hall, or tavern, head over to our Facebook page and give it a shout out.  We really do want to hear from you!
