One month ago today, Governor Cuomo signed legislation to decriminalize marijuana in New York State.  That law is now in effect. Now that marijuana is now decriminalized, that means those possessing up to an ounce of it will receive a civil penalty of $50 while those possessing one to two ounces will be fined $200. In addition to the change from criminal to civil penalties, the state will be expunging marijuana convictions for some individuals. It is still illegal to sell marijuana.
