One of this writer's favorite drives is along the southern shore of Lake Ontario.  From Niagara County up and east to the Rochester suburbs, Oswego, and then slant north to Sackets Harbor and even Chaumont Bay, this is one of the prettiest drives I have found in the Upstate New York region.

And, you are never far away from a good meal while taking this journey.

This gallery showcases a dozen great places to pull off the road and enjoy a meal along the way.  These places include waterfront seafood restaurants, cozy taverns with excellent food, and even some places that are situated in historic locations.

The menu selections are eclectic with award-winning fish frys, good old comfort foods in a throw-back diner, some mouthwatering Polish food, and a plate-filling juicy steak.  They are all here.

So whether you are here for business or pleasure, visiting friends or family, or maybe just on an adventure looking for the famous Lake Ontario lighthouses or even the famous (and bizarre) Chimney Bluffs State Park, know that a good meal is up ahead and just around the corner.

We recognize that this is a short list and there are many other restaurants along this route.  So, if your favorite Lake Ontario restaurant didn't get mentioned here, we encourage you to visit our Facebook page and give it a shout out.  We really do want to hear from you!

12 Delicious Lake Ontario Restaurants From Niagara County All the Way Up to Sackets Harbor and Beyond

With nearly 300 miles of shoreline in New York State, Lake Ontario is a prime location for a waterfront restaurant. And there are dozens to choose from.

This is a list of 12 great places to dine while enjoying Lake Ontario. Most are directly on the water, others are a block or two away, but all share the same bonus of lakefront dining....spectacular sunsets. You will visit elegant restaurants, some family owned restaurants that are now several generations into same family ownership, a restaurant located on an ancient U.S. military ground, a "drive-in" that sells one ton of fish a week, and a lakefront destination that opened over 150 years ago.

Each entry has a link to the restaurant. Enjoy!

14 Exquisite Gourmet Cheese Shops in Upstate New York

Cheese production is a big business in Upstate New York. In fact, the Empire State is the fifth largest cheese-producing state in the US (Wisconsin is #1 of course).

What many don't know is that New York actually used to be one of the most dominant states in terms of cheese-making in the country. That was about 150 years back at this point. But there are still tons of delicious cheeses being produced in our state and we want to show them off.

Here are 14 of the best gourmet cheese shops in Upstate New York.

We hope you will visit them and when you do, don't forget to ...."say cheese!"
