For kids who love to fish or just want to give it a try, here's your chance to win prizes!  The City of Oneonta is holding the 59th Annual Fishing Derby at Hodges Pond in Neahwa Park, Oneonta on Saturday, July 30th.  This is a free “catch and release” competition. All participants who must be at least 5 years of age and no older than 15 need to provide their own pole, bait/lures, and a clean bucket.

The Oneonta Lions Club will provide refreshments to participants and their families, along with sunglasses handed out to contestants while supplies last. The Susquehanna Bass Association will conduct a raffle and present awards for the biggest bass caught. The city will present awards for the biggest fish caught among contestants in three age groups.

Parents/Guardians must complete a registration/release form in order for their child/children to be eligible to participate in the fishing derby. This can be done prior to the event on Saturday between 3 p.m. and 3:45 p.m.  The derby begins at 4 p.m. and runs until 5 p.m. Or you can pre-register children at the Office of the City Clerk, located on the first floor of City Hall, 258 Main Street. City Hall hours are weekdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
