Not all heroes wear capes, sometimes they wear full police uniforms, bullet proof vests, and giant gloves to protect their arms and hands from a potential injury - you would too if you were involved in rescuing a large hawk!

All in a day's work for the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office, who completed a successful wildlife rescue on Wednesday March 11th.

While we may assume that being a part of the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office may not leave time for this type of response, our area law enforcement does it all! On Tuesday, March 11th Deputy Santo and Deputy Kutz from the Durchess County Sheriff's Office responded to a wildlife call involving an injured hawk.

After ensuring the hawk received the help it needed, the call was deemed a 'successful rescue.'

Deputy Kutz, assisting the hawk in the video above, is a brand new Academy Graduate out on field training. You may remember Deputy Kutz's name from an incident that took place around the holidays during his time in the academy. Just ahead of the holidays, Kutz, along with other recruits, were part of an effort that successfully located and apprehended a porch pirate in Poughkeepsie while participating in a fitness test. The suspect had reportedly stolen a package containing Christmas presents from a home on Parker Avenue.

Dutchess County Sheriff Kirk A. Imperati, in response to this week's Hawk rescue:

Courteous, caring, and professional - that's how our deputies handle serving our community. From people to pets to wildlife, if help is needed, we will be there to lend our support and care.

Deputy Kutz did an outstanding job and showed why he recently graduated at the top of his academy class.

The hawk is on its way to being rehabilitated, and we take great pride knowing that it will soon healthily return back to its natural habitat.
