The Tioga County woman has been the editor of the Owego Pennysaver Press for more than two decades, is retiring from that job.

Wendy Post is wrapping up her career at the community newspaper this week. She said it will be "a big change" but she has developed plans that will keep her busy in the years ahead.

During a WNBF News interview Tuesday, Post said she's "not going to have any spare time on my hands."

Post said she grew up in Rochester and joined the military shortly after graduating from high school.

She said in the Army she served as in an administrative capacity, as a motor vehicle operator and as a paratrooper.

Post eventually began writing about some of the things she was seeing. She spent time covering major stories like the aftermath of the Oklahoma City bombing and the attacks at the World Trade Center in New York City.

She later worked in Tioga County at the IBM facility in Owego, which later became Loral and then Lockheed Martin.

Post then joined the Owego Pennysaver and worked with its related publications.

Although she's enjoyed her time as editor of the Pennysaver, she said has been considering stepping down from the job for awhile. She's looking forward to not "running all the time" so she's "just trying to cut back a little bit."

Post said "the newspaper industry is changing" and she believes "it's time for the younger generation to step in" and oversee things. She said: "It's just time." She said it will "feel good not to have a deadline" after 20 years as editor.

Lauren Royce, a SUNY Oswego graduate, will be the new editor of the Owego Pennysaver.
