Southern Tier New York High School Football Championship Weekend
It's that time of the season. But I don't mean the holidays or anything holiday-related.
It's high school football state playoff season. And our area is the home of Section 4 high school sports where many of our teams head to playoff action in every sport.
Section Four represents a large area of the Southern Tier of New York including 10 counties from as far west as Steuben and Schuyler Counties to Delaware County on the eastern end.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, three Section 4 high school varsity football teams headed to New York State semi-final playoff action. Three emerged victorious.
Maine-Endwell vs. Monroe
The Maine-Endwell Varsity squad took their number one ranking in Class B against Monroe of Rochester on Saturday, November 24th, and came away with a 29 to 24 win over the Red Jackets.
Next up on the schedule for the Spartans will be against Section 1 Rye for the Class B New York State championship. That game is scheduled for 12 Noon on Sunday, December 3rd at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. Maine-Endwell is undeated at 12-0, while Rye is 11-2 overall and ranked 2nd in Class B.
Tioga Central vs. Clymer Central//Sherman/Panama
Tioga Central made no mistake about who was the dominant team on Friday, November 24th, as the Tigers defeated the Clymer Central//Sherman/Panama Wolfpack, 63 to 16.
Next up is the Class D New York State championship game at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse on Saturday, December 2nd at 12 noon, as the 13-0 Tigers take their number 1 ranking up against the Section 2 Stillwater Warriors, rankled 3rd in Class D, who come into the matchup at 11-1.
Waverly vs. Salamanca
Waverly's Varsity team was up against Salamanca on Saturday for a Class C matchup. The Wolverines walked away with an impressive 42 to 0 win.
Next up is the Class C New York State championship game, as the Classic number 1 ranked Wolverines go up against Fonda-Fultonville Braves from Section 2, ranked 2nd in Class C, at the JMA Wireless Dome in Syracuse. Game time will be at 6 p.m. on Saturday, December 2nd.
