A teenager is being held in connection with a stabbing incident that occurred at Johnson City High School.

Authorities said the 15-year-old boy was taken into custody shortly after Monday morning's attack at the school at 666 Reynolds Road.

The youth reportedly stabbed a fellow student in the abdomen at the high school around 7:20 a.m.

The 18-year-old student who was seriously injured in the attack was taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City. Police indicated his injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. His name and condition were being withheld by investigators.

Police said the stabbing happened before the start of the school day on the grounds of the high school.

According to a news release, school personnel and the Johnson City school resource officer "had the incident under control within seconds."

The boy who was taken into custody following the stabbing was being held at the Johnson City police station pending his arraignment.

Police said the suspect was being charged with first-degree assault, a felony, and criminal possession of a weapon, a misdemeanor.

The high school went into a lockdown immediately after the attack. Students were directed to go to their first period class at 8:25 a.m.

It was not known whether Monday morning's incident was linked to last Thursday's stabbing of a 16-year-old boy near Harry L. Drive and North Harrison Street in Johnson City. Three Binghamton teenagers were charged with attempted assault in that attack.
