A two-story Endicott home that sustained heavy damage in a fast-moving fire has been demolished.

The structure was located at the entrance to the parking lot of the Cider Mill on Nanticoke Avenue in the village's Union District.

The blaze erupted during the early evening of June 1. Endicott firefighters were assisted by units from the Endwell, West Corners, Union Center and Vestal fire departments.

Firefighters remained on the scene for several hours.

No serious injuries were reported although two people were evaluated for possible smoke inhalation.

A significant portion of the east side of the wood-frame house sustained fire damage.

Broome County fire investigators and an analyst from NEFCO Fire Investigations examined evidence at the scene of the blaze.

Endicott fire chief Joseph Griswold said the cause was determined to have been careless smoking.

Workers from Gorick Construction recently tore down the charred remains of the structure and hauled away the debris. It appears the site is to be used to provide additional parking for the Cider Mill, which is scheduled to open for the season on August 3.
